One Important thing I have learned from this trip is preparing for a conference is overwhelming but at the same time extremely rewarding. What I have learned from being involved at the Local Roots of Global Peace Conference is to be open to feedback and not afraid of how others perceive your work. Before the conference, I was terrified as I thought the other students, as many of them were much more advanced than I would be extremely critical of my work. What I came to discover is that all of the students were providing helpful feedback to help me enhance my work. All of the students presented excellent presentations regarding various topics, and I absolutely loved learning about all these new ideas. The presentation component of the conference was not in the least what I had expected. I had planned to give a presentation, with the expectation of being attacked with questions I could not answer about my research. My expectations for the presentation were far better than I could have ever expected; everyone was extremely helpful and positive towards my work. The Conference was an experience I would not trade for anything, as the number of things I learned was priceless.
